A Se Mania or Tata is a harvest festival celebrated by the Attongs in
Meghalaya. The first ceremony is ssociated with
Jhum cultivation. During the ceremony each family selects a suitable place in their plot and arranges an altar of a 2-metre length of Bamboo with leaves and a structure of split bamboo. The surface of the split bamboo has attractive designs.
Chanting rituals and sacrifice of a chicken are offered to the deity. Along with this, ceremonial planting of paddy, millet and other grains and seeds take place. The sacrificed chicken is then cooked and eaten with rice and curry. Rice beer is also served.
