Located near
Esplanade and the racecourse of
Kolkata, the Maidan is one of the largest city-center parks in the world. Bounded by Chowringhee Road in the east and the
Hooghly River in the west, the Maidan was built and developed in 1758 along with the reconstruction of the
Fort William. Calcutta Ladies Golf Club, Calcutta Bowling Club, zoo and horticultural gardens are to the south of Maidan. The
Eden Garden, venue of the famous Calcutta Cricket Ground, is in the northeastern part of the Maidan. The Maidan is also ideal for walking along the river.
