Black Partridge (Melanoperdix nigra) is a medium sized bird of about 25 cm in length, commonly found in primary forests and peat swamp forests.
It is a dark, thick-billed partridge, hence the name. Its iris is dark brown and feet pale blue. Male is almost entirely black, while female is rich brown with pale throat and breast and bold black scalloping on wing coverts.
Black Partridge can be seen in the Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary, Jammu and Kashmir.
