Salwar Kameez

One of the most comfortable all weather outfits, Salwar Kameez is the second most preferred women’s dress in India. It is said that the word 'Salwar' comes from the Arabic word 'Sarwal,' with the sounds 'r' and 'l' reversed. 'Kameez' also derives from Arabic, and is related to the French word 'chemise'. This wear includes a Kameez (top) and Salwar (pants), which come in a variety of designs, colors, sizes and materials. It is an ideal dress for all joyful events such as weddings, parties, and formal gatherings. The salwar kameez is very graceful and lends the wearer a distinctive feminine charm.

The salwar is structurally similar to the pyjama like trousers and Kameez is like a loose tunic. A dupatta is also worn around the neck along with the Salwar Kameez. The ethnic hand embroidered salwar kameez from the rural women artists of Gujarat is very attractive.
