Raga is an elaborate description of the musical modes of the Indian classical music. It is basically a set of Vedic-routed rules for building a melody, specifically describing the scale of ‘arohanam (ascension)’ and ‘avarohanam (descending form)’. Ragas are classified according to the underlying scale of five, six or seven tone. Both Carnatic and
Hindustani classical music have their own independent ragas.
