Jhalda is a town located in
Purulia District of
West Bengal. It is about 40 km from
Purulia and 225 km from
Kolkata. This is a picturesque town which is surrounded by hills, jungles, falls and rivers. The
Kangsabati River originates from the hilly terrain of Jhalda.
Sharing borders with some districts of Jharkhand, Jhalda is an industrial hub dotted with several private beedi manufacturing units. It also houses a unit of Arambagh Hatcheries.
Places of excursion from here are
Chelliama, Sirkabad, Ajodhya Hills and the ruins of several 7th century Jain temples in Balrampur.
By road, Jhalda is easily accessible from Purulia. The town also has a railway station.
