Prahlad was the son of
Hiranyakashipu, a devil king, who claimed to be more powerful than
Vishnu, the Supreme God. The mythological story of Prahlad is described in the
Vishnu Purana.
Prahlad was a devotee of Vishnu, and this infuriated his father. Hiranyakashipu tried in many ways to kill Prahlad, but the Lord’s name saved Prahlad each time. Prahlad believed that his Lord Vishnu was omnipresent. Hiranyakashipu was finally killed by Lord Vishnu who took the incarnation of Narasimha for that purpose. Prahlad's story is one about faith and devotion.
