Nakhoda Mosque

Nakhoda Mosque, situated north of the BBD Bagh, is the largest mosque in Kolkata. Built in 1926, the mosque can accommodate 10,000 people and was modeled on the tomb of Akbar at Sikandra near Agra. The red sandstone mosque has two 151 ft minarets and a brightly painted onion-shaped dome. In addition, there are 25 tiny pillars of 100-117 ft tall. The gateway of this mosque is an imitation of the Buland Darwaja at Fatehpur Sikri.

You can buy attar (incense) outside the mosque except on Sundays. The mosque is decorated gracefully during Muslim festivals.

Nakhoda Mosque is at the junction of Rabindra Sarani and Zakaria Street, about 5 km from the Esplanade Bus Station.
