Kalaikunda in Midnapore District is located about 13 km to the south of Midnapore. It is regarded as the major base of the district. Presently, this town is home to Mystere Squadrons, Vampires, Hunters, Canberras, MiG-21s, Su-7s and MiG-27s. Diamond Jubilee Museum of Kalaikunda Airfield exhibits DHC-3 Otter, Hunter fighter and Gnats. A large number of warbirds are also displayed here.
Nearly 9 km to the east of Kalaikunda is Kharagpur.
