Kalachand Temple is a 15th century shrine located at
Lalbandh in center in
Bankura District of
West Bengal. This impressive structure stands on the south bank of the
Lalbandh Lake. Lalbandh is about 241 km north of
Kolkata.
Built by Raghunath Sing, it is the earliest of all the laterite built Ekaratna type of temples. Perched at an altitude of 9 m from the ground, this square base temple measures 11 m on all sides. The curvatures on the roof are decorated with beautiful paintings, which are scenes from the Hindu epics.
