Established in 1961, Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya is a museum located on the Riverside Road in
Barrackpore, an important industrial town in
North 24 Parganas District. Barrackpore is about 24 km north of
Kolkata, on the banks of
Hooghly River.
The museum has a large collection of photographs depicting Mahatma Gandhi's life, chiefly his peace mission to Naokhali. It also houses photocopies of letters to Gandhiji from different countries, letters written by him, press cuttings and bulletins, and tape recordings of reminiscences of Mahatmaji. The museum holds a library, which has a good collection of Gandhian literature.
