Murshidabad




Murshidabad is a small town situated on the banks of river Bhagirathi. It is situated 221 km from the north of Kolkata and 11 km from Berhampore. This historic town derived its name after Bengal's Nawab Murshid Kuli Khan. The main attractions in and around the town include Katra Masjid, Hazarduari Palace, temples, a huge cannon called Jahankosh and Nimak Haram Deori or the Traitor's gate. Nearby lies the ancient capital city of Karnasubarna.

The best time to visit Murshidabad is in winter, between October and April, when the weather is pleasant.

Murshidabad is connected to other cities and towns by rail and road. There is a railway station at Murshidabad. The airport near this place is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at Kolkata.
