Chandrakona Village lies in the Ghatal sub division of
Midnapore District. The village derived its name after the king Chandraketu, who was the contemporary of the
Pandavas.
In early times, this village was a prosperous town known for its trade and commerce and supposed to have 52 bazaars and 53 roads. Today one can find here old relics, old institutions, forts and old temples; all retain the former importance of this place.
Some of the famous temples in this village include Pancharatna and Navaratna temples, the Lalaji temple and the Malleshwar temple. There is a clear influence of Oriya culture which can be seen not only in the temples but also in the language, customs and manners of the residents.
