Pakhipahar, a hill in the middle of
Purulia District's tribal area, is located 50 km from
Purulia, 70 km from
Jamshedpur and 110 km from
Ranchi. It is an 800 ft granite hill in the
Matha Range of hills bordering Srirampore. Pakhipahar is also known as Murra Buru or the Bald Hill. The nearby forests are a source of attraction due to the presence of different varieties of animals.
Tourist accommodation is available in the forest guest houses. During the months of February-March, the hill region comes alive with flowers and the tribes celebrate their age-old festivals; it is the best time to visit the place.
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, the nearest airport at Dum Dum, connects Kolkata with other parts of the country. Road and rail facilities are available from Purulia.
