Falta, an important industrial town in
West Bengal, is situated on the eastern bank of the
Hooghly River. About 50 km from
Kolkata, this port town has a significant place in India's colonial history. It was here that the
East India Company set up camp after its defeat at the hands of Shiraj-ud-Daulah in 1756.
The garden house of Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose, the renowned scientist, is a popular tourist attraction here. He is reported to have made many of his discoveries in this house.
