Tungnath is a small village in the rural hinterland of
Uttaranchal and is noted for its sedate and tranquil atmosphere. It is about 30 km from
Ukhimath.
Situated on the snow clad mountains of the Himalayas, Tungnath is also a place of pilgrimage in the Garhwal region of Chamoli District. It is situated at a height of about 3,680 m above the mean sea level.
Akashkamini River has its origin here. The highest Shiva shrine in the Himalayas, Tungnath Temple is situated in this holy place. Chopta is the ideal base camp to explore Tungnath.
