Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, situated at the edge of the Corbett Tiger Reserve, lies in
Nainital District of
Uttaranchal. Being a buffer sanctuary to the
Corbett National Park, this park is known for its quiet, peaceful, riverine surroundings.
Named after the Sonanadi River, this reserve land covers a total area of about 301 sq km. This park is famous for Asiatic elephants and tigers, and is rich in habitat supporting a large number of species. Wildlife enthusiasts have the options of either going for an elephant ride or jeep safari or going for a forest trail with an armed guard. Corbett Museum (Dhangadi gate), Corbett Waterfalls and Garjia Devi Temple are other places worth visiting in the region.
Forest rest houses at Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary are at Halduparao, located between the Palain and Sonanadi rivers, Lohachaur and Rathuadhab. The best time to visit this sanctuary is from November to April.
Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary can be approached easily from Ramnagar, 51 km south. Pant Nagar Airport (50 km away) and Ramnagar Railway Station are the nearest airport and railhead respectively. Moradabad Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh is the major railway station nearby.
