Doon Valley




Doon Valley lies in between the two most important rivers, namely Ganga in the east and the Yamuna in the west. Characterised by a moderate climate, Doon valley is surrounded by the Himalayas in the north and the Shivaliks in the south. The valley is located at an elevation of 640 m.

Doon Valley derived its name after Guru Dronacharya, a great teacher in the Mahabharata. Dehradun, the district capital is situated in this valley. The valley houses a number of interesting places including the religious town of Rishikesh, the queen of hills, Mussoorie, the renowned sulphur springs at Sahasradhara and a part of the Rajaji National Park.
