Auli is a well known ski resort with its slopes comparable to the best in the world. Auli is the third most famous skiing spot in India, and it is just 12 km away from
Joshimath. There are dozens of areas for trekking where tourists can take a walk and the scenery is fascinating. The 3 km long slope ranges from an altitude of 2519 m to 3049 m and offers a 180 degrees view of the
Himalayan peaks which include
Nanda Devi,
Kamet, Mana Paravat, and
Dunagiri. Various skiing festivals and the national championships are held here during the skiing season of January to March. The region is connected with Joshimath by a good motorable road. During winter transportation is through the world’s most highly situated and longest ropeway (cable car).
One road from here leads to the famous
Valley of Flowers. The hot water springs are also wonderful.
Auli is about 500 kms from Delhi. The last stations before Auli are Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun. From Rishikesh, there are daily buses and taxis. Rishikesh is 253 kms, Haridwar is 277 kms and Dehra Dun is 298 kms from Auli.
