Pauri Garhwal District of
Uttaranchal has a geographical area of 5,440 sq km. It is bounded by the districts of
Chamoli,
Rudraprayag and
Tehri Garhwal in the north,
Udham Singh Nagar in the south,
Almora and
Nainital in the east, and
Dehradun and
Haridwar in the west. Pauri is the headquarters.
The climate of the region remains pleasant throughout the year. The Alaknanda and Nayar are the main rivers. The major languages are Garhwali, Hindi and English. The various customs and traditions are founded on the Hindu religion. The folk songs, music, and dances reflect the traditional cultural richness of the people. Pauri Garhwal is well connected to Dehradun,
Rishikesh and
Kotdwar by road. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport. Kotdwar Railway Station is within Pauri Garhwal District.
