Renowned for its scenic beauty and rich bio-diversity, the Rajaji National Park is situated along the hills and foothills of
Shivalik ranges in
Uttaranchal. The three sanctuaries, Rajaji,
Motichur and
Chilla were amalgamated into a large protected area and named as Rajaji National Park.
It spreads over 820 sq km and represents the Shivalik eco-system. The vegetation here includes Sal forests, board leaved mixed forests, scrubland and grassy. A large variety of inhabitants dominating the park include mammals, birds, reptiles (snakes and lizards), amphibians (frogs and toads), butterflies and fishes.
The park is open from 15th November to 15th June and is closed during rainy season. Accommodation is available in the forest rest houses.
Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport, which is only a few kilometers away from the northern boundary of the park. The park is well connected by road from Saharanpur, which is linked by rail to Delhi, Lucknow, Amritsar, Jammu Tawi and Kolkata. Dehradun-Delhi state highway forms the western boundary of the park.
