Mahakalika Shaktipeeth, established by
Sankaracharya in the 8th century, is in
Gangolihat - 80 km from
Pithoragarh. Situated amid pine trees, this shrine is dedicated to
Goddess Kali. The Goddess Kali is represented in her fierce form, conquering the demon. A large fair is held here on the eight day of
Navratri. The famous Chamunda Devi Temple is nearby.
