Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple

Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple is situated in Garhi Cantonment area, 5.5 km from the city center of Dehradun. It is a cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva on the banks of a seasonal river. Inside the cave, water drips from the ceiling on the shivling and that is why the temple is called Tapkeshwar Mahadev - literally meaning the 'dripping Shiva'. According to a local legend, Lord Shiva made milk flow from this cave for Ashwathama, the son of Dronacharya, teacher of both Kauravas and Pandavas.
