Residing in the states of
Uttar Pradesh and
Jammu and Kashmir, Garhwalis are agricultural tribes, generally known as the Central Pahari. A Hindu community, they recognize the five
Pandava brothers as their deities. Garhwali villages are located near rivers or springs. Houses are built with stone and mortar walls reinforced by wooden beams. On festive occasions the women folk wear brightly colored clothes, heavy silver nose rings and earrings, and colorful head scarves. Their spoken language is Tehri.
