The ancient kingdom of Katyur Dynasty, Askot, is a pristine village 54 km from
Pithoragarh. The name has been derived from the word ‘Asi-kot’, which literally means 80 forts. This village, studded with these ancient forts, is a reminder of its glorious past. Askot Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1986, in the pastoral surroundings of Indo-Nepal border is the main attraction of this place. This sanctuary is the home of the musk deer. Askot is surrounded by sal, oak and pine forests and numerous waterfalls. The Malika Arjun temple and the Ashram of Narayan are the other attractions.
Askot is accessible by road and rail from Tanakpur (151 km).
