Madan Mohan Malaviya, the founder of
Banaras Hindu University, was born on 25th December 1861 at Ahiyapur in
Bihar. He belonged to a poor family. Later he rose to a very good position through constant effort and dedication. His role in the freedom struggle was immense. He was elected president of Indian National Congress twice.
Madan Mohan completed his graduation from Calcutta University. In 1892, he joined as an advocate in the Allahabad High Court. As an advocate, he is known for his remarkable speeches. He worked for the poor and innocent people. Through his establishment, the Banaras Hindu University, Madan Mohan made an attempt to build a tradition against the slavery imposed by the British. He was also a born poet and scholar in Sanskrit.
He passed away on 12th November 1946. Madan Mohan’s contribution towards the welfare of the country is outstanding.
