Rampur District occupies an area of about 2,367 sq km and comes under the
Moradabad division of
Uttar Pradesh. It is surrounded by
Bareilly District in the east,
Moradabad District in the west, Badaun District in the south, and
Udham Singh Nagar District of
Uttaranchal in the north. It lies in the north western region of Uttar Pradesh, along the Kosi River. During olden days, Rampur was on the trade route to Tibet and was part of the Bushahr Empire.
Rampur exists as a trade center for grain and other agricultural products. Sugar processing, manufacturing, and cotton milling industries are found here. It is well known for the Raza College and the state library.
