Panna District is in the north-eastern part of
Madhya Pradesh. Triangular in shape, it has an area of 7,135 sq km. The population is 850,000. Most of the people speak
Hindi and English.
The oldest reference to Panna is found in the Ramayana and various Puranas. The ancient name was Padmawati Puri, mentioned in Vishnu Purana and Bhavishya Purana.
Panna District is famous for its diamond mines located in a belt of about 80 km across the town Panna. It is covered by forests and lofty hills. Panna is well-known for its stylish and huge temples, spectacular seasonal waterfalls, archaeological museum, fort, palaces, Rath Yatra, and picturesque view points. The climate is tropical and the best time to visit is from January to May.
