Mawana is a small town situated in
Meerut District of
Uttar Pradesh. Also known by the name Mawana Kalan, it is the headquarters of the north-eastern taluk of the district. It is said that the name of the town is derived from Mana, a huntsman and a reputed servant of the Kauravas. Mawana was one of the gates of the ancient city of Hastinapur.
This town is a famous sugar-producing center and India’s third biggest sugar factory is located here. Mawana is also renowned for its handloom industry.
Places to be seen in Mawana are an old Pakka tank built by one Kesho Das of Jansath, an ancient Shiva temple, Gurdwara, and Ashok Tower.
Meerut is the nearest railway station.
