Gola Gokaran Nath, on the state highway, is about 35 km from
Lakhimpur in Kheri District. The place is also known as Chotti Kashi.
Popular of the landmark is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to legend, Lord Shiva, delighted by the penance done by Ravana in the Treta Yug, directed him to install a Shivling in Lanka with the instruction that it should not be put on land. But, on the way, Ravana left the Shiva-ling for some time with a devotee. He was unable to bear its weight and put it on the land. The Shivling got installed there.
Ravana, when returned, got very angry and pressed the ling with his thumb. Then Shivling took the shape of a human ear. The thumb impression of Ravana is still present on the Shivling. The place derived its name from this incident.
Nearby towns are Sundarpur and Haidarabad to the west, Bhader and Aliganj to the east and Sikanadarbad, 15 km away, to the south.
