An archeological site, Bhita, on the banks of the
Yamuna River, is about 20 km south of
Allahabad. Excavations here revealed a cluster of objects such as the images of
Lord Shiva and
Goddess Parvati, terracotta figurines of seated women and a votive tank. These antiquities are believed to be the remains of an ancient fortified city dating back to
Gupta and
Mauryan periods. Points of interests include a museum.
