Kanpur, the biggest city of
Uttar Pradesh, is situated on the banks
Ganges. The commercial capital of the state, it was formerly known as the Manchester of India. Kanpur, headquarters of
Kanpur Nagar District, is 70 km southwest of
Lucknow.
Steeped in history, Kanpur is the birthplace of Ganesh Shankar Vidhyarthi and Shyam Lal Gupta, the poet of the famous song \"Jhanda Uncha Rahe hamara\". The major attractions at Kanpur are General Sir Hugh Wheeler\'s entrenchment ( 1 km from

The National Highways 2 and 25 passes through Kanpur and
National Highway 86 originates at Kanpur. It also has a railway station on the New Delhi-Howrah line. Kanpur Airport has daily flights to Lucknow.
