Ghaziabad is historically important as is proved by research work and excavations done in the region. Civilization flourished here in 2500 BC. Many wars were fought such as the Kot war in the 4th century, the war between Timur and the Indian warriors fought at Surajpur and the Maratha-Mughal war. But the most important war was the one fought on the banks of river Hindon in 1857 with the British.
Agriculture and industry form the major source of economy. Cereals, pulses, sugarcane and oil-seeds are some of the important crops produced. Small, medium, and large scale industrial units functioning under both public and private sectors are here, which include industries of sugar, alcohol, vegetable oil, textiles, paper and agricultural implements. Handloom weaving and silk weaving are the cottage industries. Other manufacturing and processing industries include computer assemby, electroplating, tapestries, bicycles, railway coaches, and diesel engines.
Ajrara, Bahadurgarh, Dasna, Dhaulana, Faridnagar, and Hapur are among the interesting places to visit.
