Asuras are referred as supreme spirits in the oldest part of the
Rig Veda. But later it acquired a negative meaning and came to signify as a demon or enemy of Gods. This type of description is given in the later parts of the Rig Veda and in
Atharva Veda. According to Taittiriya Brahmana, the breath or ‘asu’ of Prajapati gave birth of Asuras.
