Bulandshahr District

The district of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh lies between the Ganges and Yamuna rivers. The name Bulandshahr is associated with a king named Ahibaran who laid the foundation of a tower called Baran. Since it stood on an elevated land, it came to be known as high city. In the course of time, high city was translated into Persian language as Bulandshahr.

Bulandshahr is a major agricultural district. Sugarcane, wheat, maize and potato are cultivated in plenty. Small scale industries include local handicrafts, potteries and other artistic things. Cotton cloth printing is a popular craft. Potteries of Khurja are world famous. Kajaria tiles, Orient ceramics and Rajdoot paints are some of the major companies. Bibcol factory for manufacturing polio vaccines is also located here.

The ancient ruins found at places Bhatora Veerpur and Ghalibpur are symbolic of the antiquity of Bulandshahr. Narora, Rajghat, Karnavas, Anoopshahr, Ahar and Gajroula are famous centers for temples and religious baths.
