Basti is the administrative headquarters of
Basti District in southeastern
Uttar Pradesh. Basti is around 180 km west of
Lucknow.
Sugarcane farming dominates the local crops while there are also a few small-scale industries flourishing in the nearby villages.
Places of tourist interest include Ganeshpur, Makhauda, Chhawni Bazaar, Nagar, Chando Tal, Baraha and Bhadeshwar Nath.
Nearest airport is at Lucknow.
Basti Railway Station is on the Gorakhpur-Lucknow line. Basti is situated on the
National Highway 28 and has regular connections to Lucknow and Gorakhpur.
