Rae Bareli is a small town situated on the Sai River and is 85 km southeast of
Lucknow, in
Uttar Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of
Rae Bareli District.
Rae Bareli is a major agricultural trade center in the state. Sai and the Ganges water its fertile plains. Handloom weaving and milling of agro products are the principal industries in the town. Major attractions include a 15th century fort, tomb of Nawab Jahan Khan and some ancient buildings.
Rae Bareli is major railhead of Uttar Pradesh. The airport at Rae Bareli connects it with New Delhi, Lucknow and Kolkata.
