Manikya Dynasty was the dynasty which reigned over
Tripura for 500 years. Tripura was ruled by the Manikya
Maharajas, from Maha Manikya (1400-30) to Bir Bikram Manikya (1923-47). According to legend, Tripura is connected with the events portrayed in the
Mahabharata and it was believed that the land was owned by the king, Chhenthum FA. The period extended from the end of the 14 th century to the beginning of the 15 th century. When the dynasty was established, the title of FA was dropped and the name Manikya was accepted. Portraits of the Manikya kings are displayed in the museum at
Agartala.
