Halam is a tribal group of
Tripura. Originally it belonged to the Kukis, another older tribal group of Tripura. The Halam tribe is sub-divided into 16 sects.
The main source of living of the Halams is jhum cultivation. They make various sacrifices and offerings to avoid disasters causing crop failure and epidemics. A community dance form called Hai-Hak is performed after the harvest to satisfy Goddess Lakshmi.
