Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary

Located about 30 km south of Agartala, the Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is a small reserve with a lake, zoo and botanical gardens. It lies amidst the Charilam Reserve Forest in West Tripura District and covers about 18 sq km.

Famed for the rare spectacled monkey, this sanctuary has a rich collection of wildlife, mainly of birds and primates. Notable among them are the crab-eating mongoose, rhesus macaque, pigtailed macaque, capped langur and slow loris.

Visitors can enjoy the ride on elephant and on a toy train. Boating facilities are available in Sepahijala Lake, an artificial lake covering about 3 sq km.

Rainy and winter seasons are ideal to visit. Accommodation is available in the Forest Dak Bungalow within the premises.

The National Highway 44 connecting Agartala with Udaipur passes through the sanctuary. Regular buses run to Udaipur, Melaghar and Agartala, taking about an hour to reach.
