Sholingur

Divya Desam,Katikachalam,Chintamani,Vada Tiruvarangam

Sholingur is located on the Chennai-Bangalore railway line, with a railway station of its own. The place is otherwise known as ‘divya desam’ due to the presence of the Bhaktavatsala Perumal Temple which is 9 miles away from the railhead. Sholingur is also called ‘Kadikaachalam’.

A Chola king discovered a shivling at this place and built a temple, whereby the place came to be called Chola Linga Puram, which later became Sholingapuram, or Sholingur.

Sholingapuram is historically important as this is the place where a battle was fought between Hyder Ali and the British in 1781.

In the vicinity of the temple there is a mandapam for conducting weddings, and a hostel. Mess facilities are provided in the hostel. Muruga Temple – Tiruttani and Saravana Poikai – Tiruttani are the nearby temples.
