Arakkonam, also known as Arkonam, is a main town of
Vellore District and is 27 km from
Kanchipuram. The place is well known for the Arunachaleswarar Temple.
Agriculture, weaving and industrial activities form the major source of livelihood of the people.
Southern railway has both broad gauge and meter gauge rail junction at Arakkonam. Vellore is about 60 km from Arakkonam.
