Vandavasi




Vandavasi, also known as Wandiwash, is a taluk headquarters in Thiruvannamalai District of Tamil Nadu. Located in the eastern region of the district, this prominent town is on the State Highway between Arcot and Tindivanam.

It is a historic and religious important place in the district. The place witnessed a fierce battle between France and United Kingdom in the 18th century in order to gain control over India. The main attraction is Jalakandeeswarar and Ranganadhaswamy Devasthanam (temple). Thiruvalluvar College of Engineering and Technology and Sri Akilandeswari Women's College are the landmarks.

Ponnurmalia Teerth, a Jain temple at the foot of the Ponnurmalai Hill, is 10 km away. Thennangur is a sacred spot at about 6 km from Vandavasi. Thoosi Mamandoor, known for historic rock- hewn monuments, lies on the Kanchipuram road.

Vandavasi is accessible from Thiruvannamalai and Kanchipuram. Anakkavur, Arani, Virambakkam, Marutadu, Malaiyur and Thellar are directly connected to Vandavasi by road. Chennai, the state capital, is 98 km north-east.

Chennai International Airport is the nearest airport. Nearest rail access point is Tindivanam Railway Station.
