Kankodutha Vanitham

Kankodutha Vanitham is a small sleepy village situated about 15 km from Tiruvarur, in Tamil Nadu. Pandavayaru River, one of the tributaries of Cauvery River flows through this village. The place is famous for the Nayanavaradeswarar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Kankodutha Vanitham literally means ‘the place of the lady who gave away her eyes’. Legend has it that once a mother prayed to the deity to grant vision to her child and in turn she offered her eyes in sacrifice. When her prayer was answered, the mother plucked her eyes and offered it to the god. The god appeared and restored her eyes back.

Thiruvarur Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
