Durvasas was a sage renowned for his choleric temper, and curses out of his temper. He was the son of
Atri and Anasuya, and in some accounts he was a son or emanation of
Shiva. It was he who cursed Sakunthala, for keeping him waiting at the door. In Vishnu Purana, he cursed
Lord Indra for disrespecting a garland given to him by the sage.
Lord Krishna also was the subject of the wrath of this sage.
The ashram of the sage, at Durvasa in Uttar Pradesh, is now a pilgrim center, visited by pilgrims from different parts of the country.
