Manikkavachakar, a scholar and prolific composer of the 14th century, was born in Vadavur of
Thanjavur district in
Tamil Nadu. Originally called Vadavurar, he served as a minister for a Pandya king. the most popular of his works is Tiruvachakam, which contains 700 songs. Most of his compositions portray both philosophical and devotional themes.
