St. Catherian's Falls is a glittering waterfall situated on the
Mettupalayam Road, about 8 km from Kotagiri, in
Nilgiris District of
Tamil Nadu. This double-cascaded falls, plunging from a magnificent height of 250 ft, is considered as the second highest in the district. It waters from the upper stream of the Kallar River.
St Catherian's Falls is named after the wife of Mr M D Cockburn, the pioneer planter of Kotagiri. The falls is locally known as ‘Geddhehaada Halla’ which literally means ‘Foothills Dale River’.
The site also offers panoramic view of the sweeps of forests and woodlands, waylaid by tea gardens and yet running to meet the plains in the south-western moorings. Dolphin's Nose of Coonoor is also seen across the mighty gap in the hills.
