Sama Veda

Sama Veda (also spelt Samaveda) consists of a selection of songs (hymns) mainly from the Rig Veda. It has two parts, the Purva-Archika and the Uttar-Archika, containing 1,549 verses. The notes of this Veda are collectively known as Sama Gana, which are believed to be the root of classical Indian music. This collection of sacred hymns serves as a textbook for priests presiding at Soma offerings. The priests of the Sama Veda are known as Udgatris.
