Sathyamurthy Perumal Temple is located at
Thirumayam in
Pudukkottai District. The temple is dedicated to
Lord Vishnu. Thirumayam is known as one of the 108 Tirupathis.
The deity here is Sathyamurthy Perumal, who appears with a Prayoga Chakra in one hand and a conch on the other. This place is also known as Sathyak shetram. There is a sacred pond called Sathya Pushkarani in the complex. The idol of the perumal is believed to be the biggest in India. Perumal lies with half-closed eyes, with a gentle smile on his face and embracing Aadhiseshan with his right hand. He is surrounded by devas and rishis. Ujjivanathaayar is the ambal here and the utsavamurthy is Azhagiya Meyyar.
Other deities present in the temple are Lord Brahma and Goddess Lakshmi. This holy temple is said to be a 7th century Kudavarai temple.
Thaila Kappu is a ceremony performed for Perumal, once in 12 years. 'Ther Thiruvizha' (Juggernaut festival) is another event held in the full moon day of Vaikasi month (May-June). Aadi Pooram festival is also celebrated consecutively for ten days.
