Situated about 125 km from
Palakkad, the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is placed in a valley between the
Anamalai Hills of
Tamil Nadu and the Nelliyampathy Hills of
Kerala on the magnificent
Western Ghats.
Spread over 285 sq km, the sanctuary shelters gaur (bison), sambar deer, spotted deer, jungle cat, lion-tailed macaque,
common otter and sloth bear. Besides, tigers, leopards, bonnet macaques, spectacled cobras, kraits, vipers, turtles, darters, little cormorants and black eagles are found. The place is also ideal for boating and trekking.
The nearest airport is at Coimbatore and the nearest major railway station is at Palakkad. Buses ply between Pollachi and Parambikulam.
